Year 9 – Out-of-Zone Enrolments

Westlake Boys High School welcomes applications from students who live outside our designated school zone. Each year, the Board of Trustees determines the number of out-of-zone places available through a ballot process, once in-zone applications have been received. Additionally, we reserve places for students who may move into the school zone after the ballot and during the upcoming academic year.

Placement offers are made according to each applicant’s priority category and their position on the enrolment list generated by the ballot. Applicants who are not initially offered a place will be automatically placed on the waitlist, in the order determined by the ballot.

Priority categories are defined by legislation and detailed in our Enrolment Scheme.

2026 Out-of-Zone Applications
Applications for out-of-zone Year 9 placements for 2026 will be accepted between 3 June and 15 August. During this period, please complete the online application and upload all required supporting documents. A complete list of required documentation is available here.

Te Whānau Rūmaki o Te Puna – Māori Immersion Class

Students entering Year 9 may apply for a place in our Māori Immersion Class, Te Whānau Rūmaki o Te Puna. Whānau who are deeply committed to te reo Māori and ngā tikanga are encouraged to apply.

Year 9 Interview

All Year 9 applicants—both in-zone and out-of-zone—must attend an enrolment interview for their application to be considered complete. Each interview will be approximately 15 minutes in duration and will involve the student and their parent or caregiver meeting with a staff member. This is a valuable opportunity to learn more about the school, ask questions, and explore what Westlake Boys High School has to offer, prior to the ballot process.

Academy of Sport (AOS)

Information about the Academy of Sport and the application process will be provided to successful applicants after enrolments are confirmed following the ballot.

School Donation

For 2026, the school donation remains the same as the current 2025 academic year: $675 for one student, and $900 for families with two or more students.

Years 10–13 – Out-of-Zone Enrolments

Out-of-zone applications for Years 10 to 13 are considered in October each year. The school will determine whether there is capacity to accept additional students in these year levels based on the projected year group size, total school roll, and space availability within course subjects.

Students entering Years 10 or 11 may also apply for a place in Te Whānau Rūmaki o Te Puna Māori Immersion Class. Whānau with a strong commitment to te reo Māori and ngā tikanga are encouraged to apply.
