Westlake Boys has a thriving music department with a wide range of activities to suit everyone. Boys are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular ensembles, school-based instrumental and vocal tuition, as well as curriculum music courses that cover a range of genres and interest areas.
Auditions for 2025 music ensembles
Westlake Boys has a wide range of musical groups for students to get involved in. For some of our advanced groups, we combine with Westlake Girls.
Extra-curricular ensembles
The heart and soul of our department, Westlake music ensembles have an enviable local, national and international reputation for excellence. For many decades, the premier ensembles have been combined with our sister school Westlake Girls, enabling our boys to experience the thrill of playing and singing with top musicians and staff from both schools.
Our ensemble directors have many years of expertise both as educators and performing musicians, and they are focused on giving students the best possible experience during their time at the school.
We provide opportunities for beginner students in our training ensembles, where they can learn the skills required to move into our premier groups. Students leaving Westlake at the end of Year 13 often speak of their experiences performing in our ensembles as their most memorable highlights of school.

School-based Instrumental and Vocal Tuition
Scientists around the world recognise that learning an instrument develops many skills in young people that are not taught in the classroom, yet are highly sought-after in the workplace. Westlake Boys is privileged to have 14 specialist tutors who are highly regarded educators and performers, offering group music lessons during school time to our boys.
