Westlake Boys High School has a strong tradition of academic excellence. The cornerstones of our success are high expectations of all learners, enthusiastic and passionate teachers and leaders, quality facilities and resources, and strong pastoral support and academic tracking.
Learning programmes are designed especially for our students and community by our teachers, using the New Zealand Curriculum as our framework. In the junior school (Years 9 and 10), our boys experience a broad curriculum and develop skills and knowledge important for future successes. In the senior school our boys begin to specialise within the Elevate certificate in Year 11; a bespoke program introduced in 2024, crafted to suit our boys best through academic rigour and character development.
In Year 12 and 13, our young men will learn increasingly refined skills and knowledge while attaining their National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) at Level 2 (Year 12) and Level 3 (Year 13).
A key element of enrichment, and point of difference at Westlake, is our highly successful extension pathway programme which leads to New Zealand Scholarship. NZ Scholarship is the most challenging assessment and is designed to expand students’ thinking at the highest level in secondary schools in New Zealand.
At Westlake, we actively promote and teach students the skills and knowledge to be successful in these examinations through our academic extension pathway, starting from Year 9 for our most capable students.
